Kelmė Holy Virgin Mary of the Assumption Church

 

First church in Kelmė was built in 1416. It established the Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas. Later Kelmė church was rebuilt many times and last time in 1900. In 1901 approved a new architect J.P. Dzekonskis stone church project, demolished wooden church, worship Verpena transferred to the chapel. In 1901 consecrated the church of the future foundation. The works supervised by architect Nikolai Andreyev. Pastor Peter Janušauskas care of the church built in 1908.  (in the same year it was consecrated). 

 Neo-Gothic church, a Latin cross plan, with three-sided apse and the facade of a high tower. Roofing crosspiece is turret. Inside the 3 naves separated by pillars. The churchyard fence brick, with arched gates. In the Kelmė St. The Virgin Mary church stands Latvian company "Emil Martin & Co production organ. Organ disposition - romantic, street - Neo-Gothic. The churchyard is a monument on the left side of the "Holy Year", built in 2000. Kelme side of the church altar decorated with Sofia Riomerienė draw pictures in 1926. Blessed Heart of Jesus picture (on the left in the pulpit) and St. Francis (right).
